Laughing heals. Humor wins

Laughing is not only liberating and fun, it also has its physiological healing effects on a hormonal level.

* When a person laughs, the brain releases endorphins, natural painkillers that produce feelings of euphoria and pleasure which in turn gives that pleasant feeling in the body and mind

* Laughter also increases the production of dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure – improves mood – and reward – produces motivation.

* In addition, laughter lowers the levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, lowering blood pressure, eliminating anxiety, facilitating sleep

* As if that were not enough, it also increases the production of immunoglobulin A, an antibody that protects against respiratory infections and other diseases. In addition, as it increases blood circulation and oxygenation, it helps strengthen the immune system.

On the other hand, including a well understood, positive, constructive humor in the way of looking at the world, helps to change the perspective and attitude towards unkind situations, problems and/or routines. What we call relativizing, de-dramatizing.

* It helps us to think about the world in a different way which helps us feel life as a friendly ground instead of a threat.

* Humor improves communication and thus interpersonal relationships. When people share humor, an emotional connection is created and an atmosphere of trust and openness is established.

* This in turn provides a sense of control, worth and personal power. It also reduces fear and anxiety.

Humor and laughter are powerful tools not only for emotional healing, but also for quality of life.

And they are free! 🙂
